Church can be everywhere

The standard definitions of church is changing rapidly. God is still at work building His church, but it is looking more different and diverse. Every believer or potential believer needs and deserves a community of faith in order to grow.

We cannot offer them a religious experience that impacts only what they do on a Sunday. They are eager to belong to a community of faith, which shapes their relationships and is seamlessly interwoven with their vocational life 24/7.

The goal is for every community to have a church presence. Whatever that looks like.

Today the emerging generation is hungry for a tangible, every-day-of-the-week spirituality that is integrated with all areas of life.

We must look at everywhere the church is not and target the “empty” places with fresh, intentional strategies of church multiplication.

Church is…

… at the workplace

… on the sports field

… in the family living room

… in the classroom

… in the local neighborhood center

… and everywhere else

Faith Communities

Whether we like it or not, conventional church alone is not meeting the many needs of the young people in the West or the unreached people groups in the 10/40 window.

The Barna Group (www.barna.org) – who research faith and culture across the earth – recently stated that popular measures such as the percentage of people who are “unchurched”- based on attendance at a conventional church service – are out of date.

Various new forms of faith community and experience such as house churches, marketplace ministries and cyber churches have emerged and millions of people are actively involved in these alternatives.

New models to encourage and equip each other and worship the living God are key. But whatever the model, we need a great increase in church presence throughout the world that engages the people in the midst of their day to day needs.
