The Global Compassion Network was launched at the Call2All Hong Kong Congress in June 2009 under the leadership of Dr Karl Bandlien and Steve Goode.

The first official participation of the Network in disaster deployment took place in January 2010 when a team made up of doctors, nurses, chaplains, crisis intervention counselors and support personnel from multiple different organizations were mobilized.

‘Our goal was to establish a medical and ministry presence in Port-au-Prince within the first week after the earthquake,’ says Karl Bandlien, who flew out with the team.

Prior to leaving the US the team had made contact with multiple groups already on the ground.

We prayed that God would direct us to the area where our help was most needed: God ushered us directly to the Salvation Army Compound in Port-au-Prince. The day before we arrived they had run out of medical supplies and their one Haitian doctor was completely exhausted after having treated hundreds of patients every day since the earthquake by herself,’ says Karl.

All of the Salvation Army buildings were still intact and they were able to house the entire team, making their facility available to set up treatment stations including two operating rooms, pharmacy, crisis counseling and ministry stations.

The compassion network team treated several hundred patients every day with a variety of injuries including severe crush injuries, fractures, head injuries and countless extremity injuries.

‘By the Grace of God we saw lives and limbs saved and we witnessed many miraculous recoveries. But, above all, we were able to be an extension of the love and compassion in our Lord's heart for a nation deeply wounded, and we were able to bring a message of hope for the future of Haiti,’ says Karl.

Call2All Global Compassion Network is made up of organisations such as Micah Network, Viva Network, Tearfund and Not For Sale. They are working in over 1000 locations and 162 countries. Evangelism and mercy hand in hand.
